Birding Group Visit to Marbury Park and Planning Session

    Bymail@billneil.co.uk 31 March 20261 April 2026

After three weeks of flu, I at last managed to get out of the house and get to the last session of the birding group term, which was to Marbury Park which turned out to be a good morning followed by lunch and a planning session at the Spinner & Bergamot.

Birding Group Visit to Birding Group Visit to Burton Mere Wetlands 3rd March 2026

    Bymail@billneil.co.uk 3 March 202617 March 2026

The first birding group visit of March was to Burton Mere Wetlands where we hoped to see some Russian White-Fronted Geese – but to no avail. However, it was a nice morning and we did have a couple of nice views of birds, particularly on the scrape.

Birding Group Visit to RSPB Marshside and WWT Martin Mere 24 Feb 2026

    Bymail@billneil.co.uk 24 February 202625 February 2026

Our visit to Marshside this year fell on a lovely, mainly wind-free, sunny day. Although it was obviously low tide, there were still good numbers of birds on the various bodies of water around the reserve. At Marshside we did not see anything especially unusual but after we were done at Marshside, Anne and I…

Birding Group Visit to Parkgate, Riverbank Road and Denhall Quay – 17 February 2026

    Bymail@billneil.co.uk 17 February 202619 February 2026

Our scheduled birding group visit to Parkgate on the 17th February for a “high” tide of 9.1 metres at 10:58 am wasn’t very well attended with Anne and I and Richard the only people going there.

Birding Group : Hoylake, New Brighton and Parkgate 3 Feb 2026

    Bymail@billneil.co.uk 3 February 202617 March 2026

The first birding group outing we were able to attend after our holiday in Lanzarote and the subsequent business getting back into a domestic routine was to the Wirral for a high tide of 9.8m at 12:12pm. Although 9.8 metres doesn’t seem that much, from bitter experience we know that that can mean nothing when…

Birding in Lanzarote 15-28 January 2026

    Bymail@billneil.co.uk 1 January 202615 February 2026

Another January, another visit to Lanzarote but this time it was a very different island to the one we have seen for the last ten or eleven years we have been visiting in winter. As a result of a rare, very wet winter that had already seen two Atlantic storms by the 15th of January, the whole island was transformed and was carpeted in green with yellow and blue flowers adorning what looked like huge meadows.

    2025 Annual Summary

    Bymail@billneil.co.uk 31 December 20254 January 2026

Unfortunately 2025 was a fairly quiet year for us on the birding front; health issues and weather combined to reduce our outings. It wasn’t a particularly good year for high tides either, with then coming either too late in the day or too low to be of much value. So, for the year in total…
