Birding Group

The month kicked off with a birding group overnighter to Yorkshire where we took in RSPB Blacktoft Sands and North Cave Reserve on the 3rd June and RSPB Bempton Cliffs on the 4th June. Between thesse two places we managed to get nine new species for the year; mainly the cliff nesting birds. We stayed over another day in Harrogate so we could visit the Royal Horticultural Society Harlow Carr Gardens in Harrogate and even here we managed to get some good birding done and even got a year tick Spotted Flycatcher. On the 11th June we went to Burton Mere Wetlands but we didn’t see anything special. We missed the 18th as we were prepping for our Wales trip but we did get to the last birding group outing of the term which was a morning at Marbury Country Park on 25th June followed by lunch and a planning session at the “Spinner & Bergamot”.

Trip to North Wales 19th -1 21st June

We went on our own to North Wales 19th – 21st June for three days during which we saw forty-seven species and got eight new year ticks.

In The Garden

In the garden this month we had the usual visitors; lots of new Goldfinch, House Sparrow and Starling. Our nest box Blue Tits continued to feed their young frantically before fledging around the middle of the month. The juvenile Magpie that hangs out in the garden is begging less and fending for itself. There were frequent visits from the Parakeets. A less noticed bird recently put in an appearance on the nature camera – a Dunnock. We had an overhead Peregrine and a rare visit to the feeders of a male Bullfinch. We had a fox in the garden for a couple of nights and the hedgehog/s continue to enjoy being fed by us.
