Slimbridge WWT 26th August 2021
After we had left Montacute, we stayed another night at Slimbridge, again staying at the Tudor Arms, and the following morning, before we set off north, we dropped in at SLimbridge WWT again. This time we decided not to bother with the Safari and headed straight for the South Lake. Unfortunately there wasn’t a great deal there and fewer waders than on our previous visit but this just gave us time to visit other parts of the site.
We headed over to Rushy Pen where we got a Spotted Redshank before working our way down the hides until we got to the new Estuary Towers. The last time we were at Slimbridge (pre 2021) they were still building this tower so this was out first look at it. Thankfully it has a lift to the top which savesd a lot of staris as it is really tall. Up on the tope open platform we could get closer views of the Cranes – this time three of them – but there wasn’t much to see on the estuary.
We came back down and returned to the tower where we had a quick look over the whole site which is always interesting but then it was time to get going. We headed off for Pershore where we stayed at The Angel Hotel. After we checked in, we went for a short walk down to the Severn which runs throught the town and here we got our first Kingfisher of the year flying straight as an arrow right down the middle of the river.
