Birding Group – Pennington Flash 15 Sept 2026
The first birding group morning out of the autumn term was, as it often is, to Pennington Flash. The weather forecast was for mainly dry with occasional light showers. Shortly after we arrived it started raining and progressively got worse until it was heavy rain all the way round and back to the car park where the ticket machine wouldn’t read our paid ticket because it was so wet. It eventually let us through and we were glad to get to the Old Boathouse for lunch. Oh yes, not many birds.
The whole place was like a building site with the front of the (not yet open) cafe ripped up to make way for expansion and an army of tree surgeons cutting down a big tree right in front of it making a tremendous headache-inducing racket. Had we known the real weather in advance we would not have bothered. As it was all our clothing and equipment had to be laid out to dry out when we got back. Looking forward to our next birding which is not going to be Brockholes which is on the schedule for next week but in Costa De La Luz as we are on holiday. Weather mid-day – 30 degrees, weather at midnight – 25 degrees. NO RAIN. We will also miss Leosowe but will be back in time for Leighton Moss.
