Summary November 2025

  • New “Year Ticks” in November 2025: 8

  • New “Life Ticks” in November 2025: 1

  • Total Species for Year so far: 136

The first birding group morning out in November was a visit to Hoylake and the Wirral on 6 Nov 2025 for a high tide at just after 11am. It didn’t work out as we expected but we did cover Hoylake, Riverbank Road, Neston Old Quay and Burton Mere Wetlands during the course of the day netting year tick, Twite, Merlin and Bar-tailed Godwit – a diverse range of species and in total we got about forty-two species.

The highlight of the month, and perhaps the year, was a visit to Leosowe Lighthouse on the 13th November 2025 when we got a life tick Lapland Bunting (or Longspur as the Americans say) in the horse paddocks at Leosowe. A year tick was Linnet in the same field as the Lapland Bunting. We also got a pair of Snow Buntings a third of the way between the car park and the groyne. It was a very mild and dry day sandwiched in between a series of wet and windy ones so we were pleased to have hit the jackpot. We also went on to Parkgate and Burton Mere Wetlands briefly.

The last birding group outing for November was to WWT Martin Mere on 25 November 2025 where we got forty-one species and a late year-tick – Fieldfare.

In the garden, everything is very quiet. There are regular visits by Blue Tits and Great Titss and occasional visits from House Sparrows and, of course, the usual feral and Wood Pigeons but generally quiet despite some freezing weather towards the end of the month.
