Birding Group at Tatton Park 25th February 2025
The first birding group meeting of the term that we had been able to get to was a visit to Tatton Park – a walk that is longer than I remember but it was good exercise and we got a couple of good birds.
Thew first bird of note that I found was a Treecreeper which was nice as we don’t always see them as often as we used to. There were a few Goldeneye ont he water, some of them already displaying as were some of the Great Crested Grebes. There were a couple of Pochards among the mix of ducks but generally it was quite quiet. A Raven passed overhead and we saw a pair of Buzzards. At Melchet Mere there was a Great Egret which surprised me but there are so many these days that I suppose a bit of inland dispersal is to be expected.
The Jackdaws were very busy and clearly they are getting their nests together already. A bit of a work-out at 5k given my gammy leg but I survived but was glad to get back to the car. I’m never sure if you get muxch bang for your buck at Tatton but it felt good afterwards.
