Burton Mere Wetlands 18 February 2025

More illness picked up on the plane to Lanzarote meant that for the first hald of Ferbruaty I was still recovering. Eventually I felt well enough to venture out to Burton Mere Wetlands for the day.

It was a bitterly cold day and we didn’t venture too far on site. We did get a couple of nice female Goosanders and a single Pintail which was nics and on the fishpond we gor a pair of Egyptian Geese. Eventually, though, the cold got to us and we decided it was too cold. On the plus side, the cafe was open (it isn’t always due to staff shortages) and the track down to the car park has now been tarmaced which is fantastic.

We asked about the water levels and the chap told us that the water levels were the same as before but they had taken the two days when the reserve was closed that was required to lay the new tarmac road to re-landscape the scrape creating more, smaller islands giving the appearance of a high water level.
