Dove Stones Reservoir 4th July 2019
We were meeting friends near Holmfirth but they were delayed and this gave us a chance to have a look at the Dove Stones reservoir which was en route. Oddly enough, this had cropped up as a possible site of interest to the birding group at the meeting on the 2nd of July when we were working out the autumn schedule
As it happens it was a glorious day and we decided to walk all the way around the main reservoir. As it happens we did not see much, apart from a Grey Wagtail, but that may have been because of the time of year. It seems like the birding year has come to it’s post-breeding halt and the birds are all lying low so we did not conclude that this was not a good site despite our small number of sightings. It did have a fantastic ice cream van !!
