WWT Steart Marshes 25th April 2018
We moved on from Somerset to visit friends at Bristol. This gave us the chance to visit WWT Steart Marshes, though it turned out to be a freezing day and quite wet.It was raining when we arrived at the car park so we drove further up the road to the other small car park at the part of the reserve that overlooks Bridgewater Bay. We took a bit of a walk out ther but it was very muddy, windy and a bit wet. There were no birds on the bay except perhaps a remote Shelduck but there were lots of Skylarks which was nice.
When we returned to the car park it was still raining but when we got a break in the rain we made for the hides. THe one that points towards the sea had nothing at all on it so we moved to the inland hides. As soon as we got there it rained heavily and there wasn’t even much to keep us interested while we waited for it to stop. There were some Avocets there bu that was about it. There were lot sof Swallows and a Cetti’s Arbler and a Kestel but it wasn’t much of a return for our efforts.
Discussion with other birders indicated that it was a poor birding day so we didn’t punish ourselves any more and headed off for Bristol.
