Mallorca Birding Summary 17th October 2017
Last Day of Our Holiday and Summary October 2017
The 17th was our last day of holiday on Mallorca so we had to pack our backs and all that stuff. We did manage, however, to get in one last walk up the Boquer Valley and this was a fairly successful walk, too with a single Blue Rock Thrush, a pair of Crag Martins, a pair of Ravens and a pair of Booted Eagles. We got a couple of Sardinian Warblers, of course, and some Goldfinch and Greenfinch and at the very end in the trees outside the Villa Boquer – our last Hoopoe of the holiday.
Our general feeling about the holiday was that there seemed to be fewer birds around than we expected. Be that as it may we still managed to get eighty-seven species including the briefest of glimpses of a “life-tick” Bluethroat. We were a little disappointed with our guided birding day but we appreciate that it is not possible to conjure up birds just when you want them. In fact I think we felt more sorry for Cristina than disappointed – it’s a pressure job. Be that as it may we had a great time and it would have been all the greater if our expected apartment rental had not collapsed and then our flight company gone bankrupt – oh well !
