Highlands Day 1 : 14th October 2016
Highlands Day 1 : 14th October 2016
John Poyner, my guide for the weekend, picked me up from the airport and drove me to the hotel at Grantown-on-Spey. After checking in and unpacking, I decided to go for a walk in the Anagach Woods nearby. I was hoping for Crested Tits but I didn’t have any luck in that department though I was reasonably sure that I heard one. In any case I only got a few Long-tailed Tits and some other common woodland birds.
I walked further through the woods than we had done before, eventually getting to the main road where I turned left and walked down to the old Spey Bridge. Here I got the customary Dipper and Grey Wagtail.
I got hopelessly lost in the woods on the way back but eventually got back home after a four hour plus walk. As I was coming into the town large flocks of Jackdaws, Starlings and Woodpigeons were flying around starting to settle down for the day.
I got back feeling a little whacked but I regard it as warming up.
