Mallorca : 22nd October 2015 : C’an Curassa and the Boquer Valley
Although the day started with rain, that eventually stopped and the clouds also started to dissipate so that some sun started to show for the first time in three days. There was, however, still a lot of wind and this meant our little bit of birding today was poor. We paid a tourist visit to Calle Bona over on the east coast in the morning and in the afternoon we stopped of at C’an Curassa where, apart from a single Moorhen there was nothing on the pools. In keeping with recent birding the birds sighted were either Robin, Stonechats or Black Redstart.
We gave up in despair at this and had lunch at the C’an Curassa restaurant and then thought we would give the Boquer Valley a try. This wasn’t much better though we did see a pair of Booted Eagles flying over Puerto Pollensa. The story was the same as before; Robins, Stonechats and Black Redstarts There ws a large flock of Rock Doves and we saw a Kestrel in the field below the Casa. We had a walk down the Pine Avenue where someone we met said that they had seen a Cirl Bunting but we only saw a pair of Chiffchaffs and some Sparrows
It was a poor show really and I put it down to the high winds. In all we have had pretty mixed weather on this holiday and I would really have wished for better than a few days of hot weather and ten days of overcast with high winds and some rain. Crap !
