Parkgate and Burton Mere Wetlands : 8th September 2015

We left Gilroy Nature Park and headed for the Boathouse at Parkgate for lunch. A great bonus here for us was the sighting of both Marsh Harrier and a ringtail Hen Harrier – while we were having lunch ! The latter was a “year tick” We added a Kestrel to our “birds of prey for the day” list  but also on the marsh were Skylark and Meadow Pipits and a Little Egret and a Curlew.

We continued on down to Burton Mere Wetlands where the Canada Goose domination continues. The usual Black-tailed Godwits were there and plenty of Teal and all the usual suspects. We managed to get another bird of prey for the day in a Buzzard. As we walked around the back of the fish pond we got a Chiffchaff, a Treecreeper and a Nuthatch all on the same dead tree. We still could not find the Tawny Owl though.

It was quite late by then so we did not go down to Inner Marsh Farm.
