Birding On Holiday
Our birding month was dominated by our holiday in Mallorca where we had some great life ticks, including Black Vulture, Booted Eagle and Eleonora’s Falcons. On the wetland front we had great views of an Osprey and life ticks of Purple Swamphen and Red-knobbed Coot. In general we visited some great sites and will most likely return one spring.
Birding Group Days Out
Our fortnight in Mallorca meant that we missed some birding group days out. However my first birding group day out after our return, which was to RSPB Leighton Moss on the 14th, was a great day. We had incredible views of no less that nine Bearded Tits that kept up spellbound for nearly an hour. On top of that Great White Egret, Kingfisher, Little Stint and lots more – a fantastic day out. The following week was supposed to be to Marbury Park and Neumann’s Flash but that was cancelled due to poor weather. Similar bad weather combined with some seasonal colds and school mid-term meant that our planned visit to RSPB Conway on the 28th but a few of us did go to Marbury Park instead and we had a nice enough morning there before he rain set in in the afternoon.
Garden
The garden has picked up in our absence with Wren, Robin, Blackbird, Starling and lots of Tits seen regularly. We still occasionally see a Nuthatch and a few Goldfinches are regulars.
