Visit to WWT Martin Mere : 10th September 2013

Recent reports of the sighting of a Little Stint took us up to WWT Martin Mere to see if we could locate the bird. Unfortunately we didn’t see it but we did have a couple of nice sightings staring at the Ron Barker hide where we saw a small number of Curlew Sandpiper.

More Wigeon and Teal have arrived and even a couple of Whooper Swans could be seen at the side of the Mere. We had good sightings of one Marsh Harrier from Ron Barker and also a Peregrine sitting on a small mound to the right of the main body of water. We also saw two Marsh Harriers from the United Utilities hide. Also there was a small flock of Pink-Footed Geese – the first of the year returning for the winter; also a single Black Swan. Around the site in general there were still Swallows flying about. At the Hrrier hide there wee growing numbers of Gadwall and Wigeon.
